The Aswan Dam Alternative Axis, which was inaugurated by the President via video conference today,
Saturday, October 12, is one of the most important projects linking the two banks of the Nile, and was implemented by the efforts of the employees of the Holding Company for Roads and Bridges Projects through its two subsidiaries, the Nile General for Construction and Roads, and the Nile General for Roads and Bridges, as well as the Arab Contractors Company.
The Aswan Dam Alternative Axis is 5.4 km long and 29 meters wide, with three traffic lanes in each direction, and includes 3 industrial works represented by 2 bridges (Nile Bridge – Bridge on the Desert Road) and a tunnel, in addition to road works with a length of 3.35 km. The great importance of this development axis is that it will contribute to transferring traffic from the current reservoir body to the new axis in order to preserve the reservoir and extend its lifespan,
in addition to creating new development areas west of the Nile, and linking residential areas and industrial and agricultural development areas east and west of the Nile to each other, in addition to providing a large number of job opportunities, in addition to facilitating the movement of citizens and serving development projects, as well as its importance in achieving a link between the road network east and west of the Nile River with transverse axes; in order to contribute to achieving comprehensive development in Upper Egypt.
The axis was implemented on the Nile to link the road connecting the Aswan / Berenice Road to the Western Desert Road (Cairo – Aswan), crossing the Nile River and the Western Agricultural Road (Cairo – Aswan), and linking with the Aswan / Abu Simbel Road. The axis was also extended west to connect with the Aswan Train Station for the high-speed electric train, as well as raising the efficiency of the road connecting the east of the axis with the Aswan / Berenice Road.
